Winners, Losers

LOSER: I have always feared when a nominee is destined to enrish the U.S. Supreme Court. But, more than that, it will mean, in this case of President Obama's first choice, a Latino woman, will make Latinos have a warmer feel about the court's decisions.

Look, let's say it like it is: These choices are nothing more than political choices and vote-getters. Understand? Do you think Obama is just enamored because she is the greatest judge in the history of the Republic? Baloney.

My point is the law is the law and that's the driving force, or should be, for any nominee. We'll know more about Sonia Sotomayor in the coming weeks; I just hope we look at what she most likely will be as a Supreme Court justice, but without a doubt she will be loooked at first and foremost as a political aide to the current President.

LOSER: The current, explosive situation at the University of Memphis with its basketball program begs the question: Who gets the boot? Keeping the public document private that spells out whether Derrick Rose did or did not have someone take the ACT test for him is, in my opinion, a stupid move. Should President Shirley Raines, a weak President at that, go? Should athletics director R.C. Johnson head out the door? I say both should go. Their position of keeping it private for the betterment of the university was unfair to the supporters of the university, at the very least.

The NCAA looks at these academic shenanigans with a tougher eye than almost any other problem, with the exception of "lack of administrative controls." It doesn't appear to be the latter, but no matter what happens in the university's meeting with the NCAA, it has badly damaged the university's basketgball image.

My New Blog Site And E-Mail Address

Here's my new blog site and e-mail address:

We're Dead Broke....Anybody Surprised?

You'd better be sitting down when reading this: We're broke, dead broke.
Now who is broke? Is it the President of the United States and wife Michelle?
Maybe GM? That's past history.
OK, stop playing games, you say.
Fair enough.
The gold old U.S. of A., that's who, and this information comes from the man who put us there, the biggest liberal of them all -- Barack Hussein Obama.
He said as much to C-SPAN. And it went like this:
C-SPAN: " You know the numbers, $1.7 trillion debt, a national deficit of $11 trillion. At what point do we run out of money?"
The President: "Well, we are out of money right now....."
Huh? I say.
Out of money this early in Obama's reign?
He said it and I will guarantee you it's worse then you could possibly imagine. I'm not the least bit surprise, are you? Come on, we're talking a burebred uber-liberal, the President himself. Spending is in the liberal DNA.
Now for the President's other thoughts:
"We are out of money right now. We are operating in deep deficits, not caused by any decisions we;ve made onh health care so far. This is the consequence of the crisis that we've seen and in fact our failure to make some good decisions on health care over the last several decades.
"So we've got a short-term problem and we have a long-term problem. The short-term problems are dwarfed by the long-term problems. We have had to spend a lot of money to salvage our financial system, we had to deal with the auto companies, a huge recession which drains tax revenues......"
Had enough? Where's the bathroom; I need to throw up.
Sorry, because there's more and it doesn't look any better.
".......One option is just to do nothing," said the President. We say, well, it's too expensive for us to make some short-term investments in health care. We can't afford it. We've got this big deficit. Let's just keep the health care system we've got now.
"Along that trajectory, we will see health care as an overall share of our federal spending grow and grow and grow until it essentially consumes everything......"
Now, have you had ennough?
I'm heading for the bathroom as quickly as I can get there.
But before I dash off, isn't it time for our watchdog, liberal media to get off its collective duff and treat this President as a politician and liberal he is rather than this garbage that he's the messiah? Well, it won't happen because the liberal watchdog media is nothing but a lapdog.

See, I Told You So

One of the least shocking things I've seen over the last several days is the North Koreans have detonated another nuclear device, much more powerful than the first one they tested some time ago.
Neither was it shocking that President Obama looks as weak as he is in reacting to it. Surely he wasn't shocked that the Koreans, who also fired off some rockets to add to the embarrassment of our President, must be perkier than ever.
It just proves once again that what I said over and over before the presidential race that we unfortunately could pick a naive man (want to guess who I was referring to?) against a battle-tested man (McCain).
We made a mad choice, don't you think?
Now our President, the leader of the strongest nation on the planet, has to hunker down in his bunker while China and Russia does the heavy lifting, warning the North Korean regime to cool it.
I'm embarrassed, aren't you? Where is our guy? Oh, yeah, deep in his bunker.

Conservatives Must Be Careful About Court Choice

I knew it would happen the minute President Obama's first (and hopefully last) choice to the U.S. Supreme Court was made public yesterday.
Oh, who could be surprised that Sonia Sotomayor is a liberal extremist; that was a given going in to the opportunity for the President to pick Associate Justice David Souter's replacement. The parade started the minute Souter's letter arrived at the White House saying he wanted to retire. I didn't think it would be too bad to swap one liberal for another liberal.
But, the more I found out about federal judge Sotomayor, the more I cringe. She says one thing and yet her voting record is replete with a philosophy that mirrors the President.
Now here are some things to worry about:
* Conservatives have already been warned from the left that we better treat this woman with kindness and just vote her in; she's going to have the votes no matter what in the Senate, so just accept that conservatism is still dead.
* Conservatives also beware for another big reason: This Latino, a first if she is approved, now is the most powerful member of this coveted voting group and ripping into her in the judiciary committee hearing would lose even more Latino votes than in the presidential race dominated by Obama.
OK, now it's my turn: I am not a conservative because I worry about these things. I am a conservative because of my beliefs and I think the true test if what I do BEFORE the vote to accept or deny. Now, I am terribly bothered by what she has already said. If this is not a liberal pit bull then I've never seen one. Personally, I am sick and tired of bowing down to minority groups just for votes. That's why I could never be a politician. Minorities must realize that they have been used -- and abused -- over promises for votes and what happens? They are used and abused.
I, for one, would vote against her just from what I've learned in the last week or so.
It also scares me that there is a feeling in politics that goes something like this: Accept this woman for what might happen later after her confirmation. No, no, no. Again, I would not compromise my core beliefs. Period.
Stay tuned.
This is going to be interesting. But, as much as I worry about this choice, if Obama has a second or third choice, that's when my concern level goes through the roof.

California Got It Right

To those who think California is the land of fruits and nuts, well, you got it right.
It's one of the reasons I thought the California Supreme Court would strike down the vote of the people who exercised their vote to ban same-sex marriage.
Admit it, you -- like me -- who accepted the ban would be overturned were stunned, shocked, to see the court do what it should have done. The people, even in California, have gotten to the point to where this idea that those three magnificent words "We The People" still means something had disappeared.
Now, I know you detractors out there, are saying "come on Fleming, you wouldn't be saying this is the court had done what you conservatives were confident would happen." Oh, yes I would. See, that's the difference between me and you. I still have faith in the court system in this country. Think these who would burn down the court building in California feel the same way? Of course not.
So, let me close this offering that the court has left me totally surprised at its rendering.
But, there should never have been any doubt about what the court did yesterday.
None. And remember: There had to be more than conservatives who voted the way they did. That must really upset you. Now I'm beginning to have hope once again.

Something This Columnist Can't Comprehend

I give up. I absolutely give up. I force myself to read the Morning Publication's Metro columnist and then I head for the restroom to purge myself.

I consider her to be ill-informed, or just plain ill.
What's my latest rant with her? Simple. She has attacked Tennesseans for having the gall to vote against Barack Hussein Obama. Shame on all of us who did it, she rails. Let this ring true with this gal: I can walk and chew gum at the same time and, besides, I make the point that I, along with thousands of other Tennesseans, may -- just may -- have it right. There, swallow that one.

She went through a myriad of gripes, not the least of which is the Morning Publication's war against gun owners. Make no mistake about it: This newspaper is anti-gun. Now that this is an established fact, the impetus of the entire newspaper on this issue is wholly out of step with Tennesseans. We are sick and tired of crime and there is only one way to even come close to one's safety: To arm yourself. I will also say that the newspaper is dishonest about its coverage of this issue.
I hope and pray that the Metro columnist, like the misguided editor and editor of the Editorial page, never face an armed intruder while you are looking for a pencil to protest. I hope it never happens. If it does, God help you. Thousand of gun-owners will have a much better chance of surviving.

So sit on your throne and tell the rest of us how to lead our lives. Nobody's reading your crap anyway.

My New E-Mail Address..........

It's one of the oddest things I've ever seen, but it applies to me, too.
When one leaves a radio station, especially if it means leaving because of downsizing, then you might as well have fallen off the face of the Earth.
Don't believe me?
Call ClearChannel Memphis, home of the former Mike Fleming Radio Program, and they will say, "Who?" Don't blame the person who answers; they're under orders from management.
How juvenile!
You'd think as much money and ratings I delivered to them, they would be more understanding, After all, the company that downsized me let me go with no thank yous or anything else. They did have the decency to allow me to walk out without a security guard clinching his hand on his weapon.
Well, to all you wonderful people out there who have supported me through the years, I am not dead. Contary wo what some things are going around, I was not released because somebody else had better ratings than me. Don't bleieve that hogwash. It really chaps me when I hear these lame-brained excuses. Understand that I will always fight when my record is attacked. I standf on my record and awards.
By the way, my new blog site is mike@mikeflemingonline.com. Stay in touch and pass this around to everybody you know.
Until next time, stay well and keep in touch.

Otis, You're Begging To Save Your Dying Newspaper

This is an open letter to my former good friend, Otis Sanford, editorial page editor of the Morning Publication:

Now you are begging for an additional cash flow to save your newspaper. How unbecoming!
It's all over Sanford's column Sunday. He quotes some big exec from the Denver Post who says the Post may withdraw content from its web site.
Is it time to laugh?
Don't over value your worth, my former friend. The only thing worthy of deep laughter is your editor, Chris Peck. He wrote one of the most ridiculous, asinine, stupid responses to a reporter ot the Memphis News that I have ever seen. I know you would agree if you could, but this was funny if it weren't so unbelievable. It conjures up my thoughts that the Morning Publication can certainly dish it out, but go off the deep end when it pertains to looking into the mirror.
Now Otis and others in his dying business are saying free speech doesn't mean free of charge.
Good luck, I doubt it will save the Morning Publication. Oh, well, Otis, you can always hope to hit it big on the Internet when the end comes.

Thanks For Your Kindness During Trying Times

Words can't address the kindness of so many people for my recent positiopn change at WREC 6oo. I've been overwhelmed by the responses, the many telephone calls of support and I just want you to know that I am forever indebted to you for the years we've had at this radio station. I don't know what I will do, but with your prayers and suppport something may come along.
But trust me on this: I will never forget your kindness through the rough and tumble times I've had sitting in front of the microphone and talking with you. It didn't matter to me if you disagreed with me; that's the nature of the business.
I will offer you my new blog site and I would ask you to pass it around. Let's stay in touch. You can reach me at mike@mikeflemingonline.com.
Once again, I am eternally appreciative for your incredible support.
LOSER: Morning Publication editor Chris Peck. He keeps dismissing the critique of his newspaper by the Memphis News. Instead of considering the points made by an ex-employee (Bill Dries, an accomplished journalist), he drops the bomb on the writer. Typical reaction by Peck, who will, my friends, be remembered for destroying the paper.
Interesting fellow, this Mr. Peck. For the longest time he refused to debate his position of anti-guns with me, yet he grants an interview with Dries and then tries to destroy Dries for what he wrote.
I will tell you without a doubt that the morale of the paper -- primarily because of Peck --- is deep and I doubt that it can ever be transformed under Peck's direction. In my humble opinion, Peck is an unmitigated hypocrite.
WINNER: The aforementioned Dries. He has been in this business for a long time and I haven't ever heard anyhting like Peck has written.
